| This simulation was done in support of the Z-Pinch Power Plant Project at Sandia National Laboratories (SNL). Using the CTH shock wave physics computer code developed at SNL, OMICRON's engineering staff modeled the effects of a pressure pulse of about 30 atm on a 11" × 11" × 1" block of aluminum 6101-T6 foam inside a Shock Tube Facility metal foam experiment. The run time of this experiment was up to about 1 ms. The two-dimensional simulation shows that the pressure shock originated from the top of the shock tube and how the pulse traveled through the aluminum foam. |
