About Us

Headquartered in Albuquerque, OMICRON Safety and Risk Technologies, Inc. was incorporated in the state of New Mexico and began services in 1996.

OMICRON was founded by Dr. Louis Restrepo, a highly educated expert in the areas of nuclear safety and risk analysis, with emphasis on the integration of safety into design and operations. He has over 25 years of hands-on experience working collaboratively with many U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) sites and facilities along with the nuclear power industry. Dr. Restrepo has several graduate degrees from the nation’s top universities and has significant experience teaching engineering and risk analysis courses at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. He has developed and delivered a number of professional training courses, seminars, and workshops on nuclear/nuclear explosive safety, risk analysis, phenomenological modeling, and integration of safety into design and operations for both the government and private sectors.

The company has grown significantly over the years. Today it employs approximately 50 professionals and has offices not only in New Mexico, but also in other U.S. locations. Our personnel have, on average, over 20 years of experience in the areas identified as “Our Core Capabilities” on this Web site, and many of them are recognized experts in their fields.

Our engineering staff’s wide-ranging capabilities and depth of experience make OMICRON one of the leading providers of specialized consulting and technical services to both the DOE and the nuclear power industry. Our customers have included National Laboratories such as Los Alamos National Laboratory, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Sandia National Laboratories, Brookhaven National Laboratory, and Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Our personnel also have significant experience in supporting projects at the Nevada Test Site, the Hanford Site, the Y-12 National Security Complex, the East Tennessee Technology Park, the New Brunswick Laboratory, the Pantex Plant, the former Rocky Flats Site, and other sites in the DOE complex, including DOE/National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) site offices at various locations. We have provided the nuclear power industry and other private industry customers with services in areas such as safety and risk analysis, reliability analysis, quality assurance, and vulnerability assessment.

OMICRON has adopted a controlled-growth philosophy to remain focused on providing individualized services based on each customer’s needs, as well as maintaining and developing our knowledge and expertise through continuous staff education and training. This philosophy has enabled us to continuously deliver outstanding customer service while maintaining the company’s competitive edge. As Dr. Restrepo puts it, "We sell the knowledge necessary for organizations to maintain exceptional levels of safety and compliance with complex regulations, which, in turn, allows these companies to remain viable. We deliver this knowledge at a reasonable price, and this is not something you are going to find in most consulting firms.”

OMICRON is a five-time recipient, including 2007, of New Mexico’s Flying 40 awards. The New Mexico Technology Flying 40 awards annually recognize the 40 fastest-growing technology companies headquartered in New Mexico. The 2007 Inc. 5000 recognized OMICRON as one of the fastest growing private companies in America, with an average growth of 45% per year. The Hispanic Business magazine named OMICRON one of the 10 finalists for the magazine’s Entrepreneur of the Year award in 2000 and 2001. The finalists were selected based on their financial performance, management planning, technology deployment, and promotion of entrepreneurship in the community.
